About Ben

I'm a music producer based in the Denver area. I got my start as a classical musician playing double bass, getting my bachelor's in music from Indiana University, and went on to study electronic music during my master's Degree. I've spent the years since working in audio engineering and making my own music, mainly EDM, Ambient, and Experimental music. I'm really excited to be a featured artist at the Bloomsbury Festival in London later this year. I teach privately because I love sharing everything I've learned about music and music production throughout my career.

I think Ableton is one of the most exciting creative tools out there, and love sharing this incredibly powerful tool with my students. Whether you're just getting started or already have some experience making music, I'm happy to meet you where you are.

My teaching:

My lessons are designed to teach you the ins and outs of Ableton, help you find your own sound as an artist, and show you how to listen to music like a music producer. Being able to identify chord progressions and melodies by ear, as well as listening to a mix and seeing how all of the individual sounds add up to the whole will really open up your mind to music, and allow you to reach your full potential as a producer.

A typical lesson:

We usually start with what you're working on in your production journey: a track you're developing, a technique you want to learn, something that isn't clicking. From there we might dig into Ableton workflow, arrangement, synthesis, sampling, sound design, or mixing. We will also spend time on ear training and music theory, along with building out your own sample and preset library, which I think is the best way to develop your own unique style.

Who this is for:

Beginners who just installed Ableton, intermediate producers who've hit a wall, advanced producers looking for new techniques or workflows, or musicians from other backgrounds who want to bring their existing ear and theory into electronic music. I work well with people who are curious and want to understand why things work, and learn how to apply that to their own music.

What sets me apart:

I don't want to teach you how to sound like anyone else. I want to help you figure out your own sound. That means sometimes we're deep in Ableton, and sometimes we're talking about harmony, listening closely to a reference track, or building the personal toolkit that makes your workflow feel like yours. I'm patient, I adapt to how you learn, and I'd love to hear what you're trying to make.
