About Daniel

I have been producing electronic music for over a decade, releasing most music under the name Enui. I have reached over 20 million streams as an independent artist, where I mix and master all of my own music. I have been invited to collaborate by the former number 1 DJ in the world, Sasha on his Vinyl Album LUZOSCURA, which also features some of the biggest names in the underground global electronic music scene such as Felsmann + Tiley, Rival Consoles, Lau.ra, Franky Wah, Dark Sky and MJ Cole. I have played gigs in various parts of the world from Australia to Europe. Along with teaching I am also available for ghost producing and remixing, mixing and mastering.

I have been ghost producing for various other artists for over a year now.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed a passion for music when I was in high school after my sister bought me my first CD which was 'Odyssey Number Five' by Powderfinger. At the time, I didn't have any formal training or background, but something about music just pulled me in. I became fascinated with how sound could evoke emotion, create atmosphere, and tell stories. The Ableton Push 3 is my favourite instrument to use even though it is not an instrument in the typical sense, but I love how much you can do with this one MIDI instrument alone! I also play drums although I am not a great drummer, but it's a lot of fun to play them and have a casual jam sesh with friends.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Most likely Be Svendsen I would say. I can listen to his music on loop for hours. His tracks are layered, rich and full of emotion - there's always something new to catch and I love how his music is influenced by a multitude of different cultures. His use of organic textures mixed with electronic elements creates a world you can get lost in.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or 'riveting' lesson you could personally give to one of your students.

Working with beginners, especially vocalists or people who struggle with rhythm, music theory, and staying in key, can be one of the more challenging aspects of tutoring for me personally. Teaching rhythm or groove to someone who doesn't naturally feel it takes time and sometimes a bit of experimentation with teaching methods, but once it clicks, it's very satisfying both for students and myself. The most riveting part of lessons is when we are at the final stages of completing a track for a student as it's such an amazing feeling to see someone's passion and emotional expression come to life to the point they can finally share it with the world!
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I play drums a little bit and I was a vocalist in University. After becoming frustrated with drums due to the need to have a studio place and not being able to simply play them in my apartment I turned to producing. Since I haven't had a great deal of experience playing many different instruments it's hard for me to say what is the most complicated instrument to master. The Ableton Push 3 is a complicated instrument in its own right but if we are talking about instruments in a traditional sense I would have to say one of the fretless string instruments would have to be one of the harder instruments to master. I have a good friend who plays the contrabass and just watching him play that whilst reading sheet music stresses me out.
  • What are your keys to success?

Passion and determination. If you're passionate, you'll keep pushing forward, and if you're determined, you'll keep learning even when it gets tough. I think making music consistently, staying open to new ideas, and embracing trial and error are important aspects of discovering new sounds and new ideas.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Tomas Haake from Meshuggah would probably be one. His understanding of complex polyrhythms is next-level and the way he goes from programming drums to playing it live is amazing to me. - I'd love to hear how he conceptualizes and practices those incredibly complex grooves. Be Svendsen - not only is his music deeply atmospheric, but I'm really interested in his process when it comes to mixing and sound design. He creates such detailed, dynamic soundscapes, and I'd love to know how he builds them. And perhaps Lana Del Rey - I'm really interested in the persona she's created and how it blends fiction with personal experience. I'd also be curious to learn how involved she is in the full process of her music, from songwriting to production as a pop artist.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your musical journey, or your days at 'music school'.

Something I've noticed over and over is that when I try to recreate a specific sound or style, I often end up making something completely different - but still really valuable. Sometimes, I actually land on a sound I'd been chasing for a while, without even realizing it. Those moments have taught me that experimentation is key. You don't always need to force things; some of the best ideas come from mistakes or accidents. That's where a lot of the magic lies in making music, for me personally.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I think it's hopefully my ability to have a good understanding of what each student's goals are and being able to give them the tools to create whatever it is they're wanting to create. I aim to make sure they understand the craft - from structuring a song, learning how to dissect the key elements of a song that they aspire to emulate, sound design, mixing, music theory and the value of experimentation. Creating a space where students feel free to explore, make mistakes, and find their own voice is what makes me a mentor that I hope you can enjoy working with!
