About Lewis
I'm a student from Nottingham, currently studying for a degree in Language and Culture at University College London, with French language and literature as my main academic interests. I also speak some Spanish and Mandarin Chinese but to a lower level. As part of my languages degree, I have just completed a year abroad studying French and comparative literature at Sorbonne Université IV in Paris - so I have plenty of knowledge of everyday French language use!
I'm passionate about languages, literature and culture, and I'm considering teaching as a possible career path after university. Apart from wanting to help people improve their French, the reason why I would like to tutor is to gain more experience teaching.
I also generally enjoy having conversations with people, debating and learning in a collaborative way.

My lessons would be aimed at any student of French from beginner's level to intermediate. I would be happy to tutor KS2, KS3, GCSE or A-level French students.
The lessons would probably range anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, but I'm generally flexible to adapt to the needs of the students.
I would approach lessons based on the needs of the student above all. I would make worksheets about different aspects of French grammar, if they found this to be beneficial, and I would make activities that could test this knowledge (a useful exercise could be to practice how to conjugate verbs in different tenses, for example). I would also encourage the student to practice speaking and listening skills during sessions. I know that in A-level language speaking exams they often require students to speak about a random topic provided to them in the moment, so to practice I could prepare interesting and relevant topics for us to speak about in tutorials. Furthermore, If the student is studying a literary or filmic text as part of their GCSE or A-level qualification, I would also be very eager to help them deepen their knowledge of the text, improve their analytical skills or essay-writing. I believe that engaging with French culture always helps to improve French language skills.
Although I do not have a detailed knowledge of each and every exam board's requirement, I am very willing to adapt the content of each tutorial to what the student is required to do as part of their exams. I would be happy to research different exam board requirements to learn about the specific format of the student's exams.
