About Caitlin

As a dedicated A-level Psychology and Criminology teacher with over six years of tutoring experience, I am passionate about helping students achieve their full potential. I have a proven track record of success, including a 100% pass rate in 11 Plus tuition, and currently work as an examiner for AQA A-level Psychology and WJEC Criminology. These roles provide me with valuable insight into assessment objectives, mark schemes, and the knowledge and skills students need to achieve the highest grades.

My teaching philosophy centres on creating engaging, personalised learning experiences that are tailored to each student’s individual needs, strengths, and aspirations. I recognise that every learner is different, and I adapt my teaching methods accordingly to ensure that lessons are accessible, challenging, and purposeful. I use a variety of teaching strategies to bring complex theories and concepts to life, encouraging students to actively engage with the material rather than simply memorise information. Through discussion, real-world examples, application-based activities, and targeted exam practice, I aim to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable.

As an examiner for AQA A-level Psychology and WJEC Criminology, I bring a strong understanding of what examiners are looking for and how students can effectively demonstrate their knowledge. I incorporate this expertise into my teaching by helping students develop the skills needed to interpret questions accurately, structure well-developed responses, apply their knowledge to unfamiliar scenarios, and meet the specific requirements of assessment objectives. I place particular emphasis on developing exam technique, using mark schemes to identify areas for improvement, and providing constructive, targeted feedback that enables students to make measurable progress. My aim is to ensure that students understand not only what they need to know, but how to communicate their knowledge effectively to maximise their marks.

My passion for teaching stems from my own experience as an A-level student, when my Psychology teachers transformed complex topics into engaging, hands-on learning experiences. They showed me that education should extend beyond the whiteboard, inspiring curiosity, encouraging independent thought, and making learning memorable. This has shaped my own approach to teaching, where I strive to create a supportive and stimulating environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and learning from mistakes.

Ultimately, I aim to do more than help students achieve excellent grades. I want to inspire a genuine interest in their subjects, build their confidence, and equip them with the skills to think critically and independently. By combining personalised teaching, subject expertise, and examiner insight, I strive to empower every student to recognise their potential, overcome challenges, and develop the knowledge, resilience, and self-belief needed to succeed both academically and beyond the classroom.

Our first lesson will focus on getting to know you as a learner and assessing your current knowledge, understanding, and exam skills. This will allow me to identify any gaps in your knowledge, areas of difficulty, and topics that require further support. Together, we will complete a RAG (Red, Amber, Green) rating sheet to identify the areas you feel most confident in and those you would like to develop. This will help us establish clear learning goals and create a personalised plan tailored to your needs and aspirations.

My lessons are engaging, structured, and adapted to suit a variety of learning styles and individual needs. I incorporate visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic teaching strategies to make complex concepts easier to understand, reinforce learning, and keep students actively involved. Depending on the topic, lessons may include interactive activities, real-world applications, knowledge retrieval tasks, exam-style questions, and detailed work on assessment objectives and exam technique. As an examiner for AQA A-level Psychology and WJEC Criminology, I can also provide valuable insight into mark schemes and help students develop the skills needed to produce high-quality responses and maximise their marks.

To monitor progress, I conduct assessments every two weeks to evaluate understanding, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that learning objectives are being met. I also provide parents with a progress tracker, allowing them to monitor their child’s development, celebrate achievements, and identify any areas where additional support may be beneficial. Feedback is an integral part of my teaching, and I use assessment results to adapt future lessons to ensure that students continue to make progress.

I am committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment in which every student feels confident and able to succeed. As a current Teacher of Psychology and Head of Criminology, I have extensive experience supporting students with a wide range of learning needs. My previous experience as a special educational needs teaching assistant has also given me valuable insight into supporting students with dyslexia, visual and hearing impairments, and processing delays. I understand the importance of adapting resources, pacing, explanations, and activities to ensure that each student can access learning in a way that works for them.

Lessons typically last one hour. At the beginning of each session, we will establish clear expectations and learning objectives so that you know what you are working towards. At the end of the lesson, we will revisit these objectives, reflect on your progress, and identify any areas that need further practice. Homework tasks will be set to consolidate learning, strengthen understanding, and encourage independent study between sessions. This structured approach ensures that every lesson has a clear purpose and that progress is continuous, measurable, and tailored to your individual goals.
