About Jilaine
My name's Jilaine (pronounced like 'Elaine' but with J) - I'm based in Oxford and have been teaching (both online via video call and in-person locally) for >3 years - and playing for decades! I love teaching and helping students gain confidence playing piano. I also play guitar and run workshops in songwriting and music production and composition, so if you are also interested in learning any of these things we can work on them together for sure. My goal as a piano tutor is to get you confidently and comfortably playing the songs you love!
I like to take a flexible approach, so the lesson structure will vary from student to student based on what you are interested in and how you best learn. Each session tends to include theory and mobility exercises, including (if you like) learning from sheet music and progressing through the grades, as well as learning a song of your choice, which can be done by ear and memory. It can be ANY song, no matter what it is (and no judgement from me) - we will get you playing it! My focus is on teaching you how to learn piano, which in time will equip you with the skills to be able to rapidly learn and play any song you like.
