About Abreu

I enjoy doing a bit of everything: singing, driving, listening to music, and spending time with my special friends. But what I can assure you is that I truly enjoy helping you become fluent in music and preparing the best lesson ever for you! This is my main goal.

I’m sure we’ll be good friends too — music brings people together!

I was a finalist in the XIII International Piano Competition Prof. Edna Bassetti Habith, one of the most renowned piano competitions in Brazil. I’ve performed in venues such as Theatro São Pedro in Porto Alegre, Teatro Regina Casillo in Curitiba, and StudioClio. I also give annual recitals for patients at Hospital Moinhos de Vento in Porto Alegre and perform in public schools to bring classical music to underprivileged communities.

I studied with Dr. Dirce Knijnik, receiving private lessons in music theory and the development of technical and interpretative skills. At music festivals, I’ve participated in masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Cristian Budu, Nahim Marun Filho, and Rafał A. Łuszczewski.

Additionally, I took harpsichord lessons with Fernando Cordella, where I gained extensive knowledge of Baroque music and historically informed interpretation, as well as the similarities and differences between the piano and its predecessor — the harpsichord.

My lessons are designed for you — whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student! If that’s the path you’d like to follow, we can also prepare for ABRSM exams, which is one of my specialities. I’ve already helped many students pass their ABRSM Performance and Practical Grades, from 1 to 8, with merits and distinctions.

Lessons are delivered with a condenser microphone and an additional camera recording from above to make it easier for students to understand what I’m demonstrating. The platform we’ll use is Zoom, chosen for its excellent transmission quality compared to other platforms.

Don’t let age intimidate you: piano can be learnt at any age! My oldest student is 70 years old and has made fantastic progress. I’m so proud of her and would love to see you, at any age, achieve the same results!

We’ll have a wonderful time together — fun, happiness, and, of course, plenty of good music! Let’s choose the songs and pieces you’d like to study, from Mozart to Frank Sinatra, or even Coldplay! You’re the boss!

Let’s discover the magic of the piano and uncover all its secrets. Generally, in our classes, we’ll cover:
1. Piano technique
2. Relaxation while playing
3. Music reading and theory
4. Piano sonority
5. Differences between rhythms, dynamics, and articulations
6. Body posture

My method has been developed with love, energy, and enthusiasm to make our lessons a true combination of learning and enjoyment.

Come and learn to play the piano with me! See you in our free trial lesson!

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I've always been in love with music, but I wanted to study a musical instrument as I was on holiday. When I played the piano for the first time, my interest in it grew immediately. Ever since, I've been in love with classical music and the piano. What a wonderful world, with so many nuances... Piano is funny and serious, happy and saddening, cold and warm. It's the most complete instrument and the most capable one to change somebody's life.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

When it comes to musical taste, I'm very old-fashioned! I've never liked genres: my interest has always been in artists. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Schubert, Schumann... Also outside of classical music: Frank Sinatra and Shirley Bassey are my favourite singers. And I only like two more singers: Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston. When listening to any artist above mentioned, I feel completely different. It leads me to a different world.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most difficult thing to convey to a student is the preservation of their musical identity. Teachers worldwide tend to make students copies of themselves... I try not to do that because I think it's an unpleasant experience. And it's always difficult to avoid: undoubtedly the biggest challenge in piano teaching.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

All instruments are hard to learn. However, I don't think they're difficult. You have to practise and understand your own way to play the instrument. There's no pattern magic formula: it's different for each one of us. And a good teacher can really help you to find yours.
  • What are your keys to success?

Understanding of the instrument, work smarter (not harder), self knowledge and discipline. But trusting in your teacher is very important too. You have to open up your mind to his thoughts and ideias.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Chopin: one of the most original composers of Music History. I'd like to know his thoughts and ideias!
Liszt: he had such a great technique and it would be a pleasure to talk with him about it.
Shirley Bassey: She has an incredible voice and I'm very curious to know how she formed and consolidated her voice. I'm saying this because singing is my hobby.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I'm going to share with you a deep thought that came into my mind a couple of years ago: students in general try to focus only on their technical mistakes, but the most important thing is not your technique. It's your interpretation and originality. I ask you: why would you record something precisely the way someone else has done in the past?
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

The secret is to know what that specific student needs at that time and to provide them the necessary tools and information for their artistic independence. I teach students how to become better teachers for themselves.
