About Karen
Hi! I’m Karen — a dedicated Maths and Physics tutor with over 10 years of experience teaching students from all academic backgrounds.
● I hold a Bachelor’s in Physics and Mathematics, a Master’s in Applied Physics (specialised in biosensors and plasmonics), and I’m currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Nottingham.
● Throughout my career, I’ve supported more than 350 students, ranging from young learners (age 7+) to postgraduate level. Many of my students come to me feeling overwhelmed or stuck — together we build clarity, confidence, and a solid understanding.
● I’ve worked with:
○ Secondary school and college students needing structured, patient support
○ University students in physics or engineering courses
○ Adults returning to study or preparing for exams
○ International students adjusting to new academic systems
○ Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or ADHD — offering extra clarity, flexibility, and encouragement
I’m passionate about helping students feel capable, motivated, and independent in their learning. My goal is not just to teach — but to truly make the subject click for each student.

The foundation of my teaching is simple:
● Build confidence by strengthening understanding of the basics.
Many difficulties in Maths and Physics stem from small knowledge gaps. Once we identify and address those, progress becomes natural and sustainable.
● I usually begin with a short diagnostic activity or informal discussion to assess your current level.
● Then, I design a personalised study plan tailored to your goals, pace, and learning style.
● You’ll always know why you're doing something, not just how — I aim to help you truly understand, not memorise.
Students often tell me I explain topics in a way that finally makes sense — because I adapt explanations to your way of thinking. This makes learning easier, and often more enjoyable.
● I’ve supported learners from age 7, including students with SpLDs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD, offering plenty of clarity, structure, and reassurance.
● If you're preparing for an exam or course, I also provide targeted worksheets, revision tools, and exam strategies to help you feel confident and well-prepared.

● The first lesson offered is a free 15–45 minute session.
This introduction allows us to:
○ Make sure you're comfortable with the video call platform, screen sharing, and interactive tools (such as an electronic whiteboard)
○ Discuss your goals, previous performance (grades, reports, challenges, etc.)
○ Identify key areas to focus on
○ Get to know each other and review how my method works
This session helps ensure we’re a good fit and that everything runs smoothly in future lessons.
