About Christian
I am a 2nd year doctoral student that has been studying music for 21 years and teaching for 3 years. I've taught nearly 100 students to date, and I continue teaching as part of my doctoral studies. Beyond the classroom, I have studied and performed at international music festivals, including the InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy, and the East/West Piano Festival that meets throughout China.

I have found that one of the most important parts of a student’s learning – one that is usually not included in any given lesson plan – is how to build self-confidence. Even if the student has worked very hard to maintain a high grade in the class, such academic progress can be destroyed in minutes due to a lack of self-confidence, regardless of preparation beforehand. If I can properly equip my students with the tools and strategies to build self-confidence, I believe that my students can better withstand the tides of stress, exhaustion, and self-consciousness, especially when it all amounts together before a performance or at the end of a semester.
Secondly, I believe that students make better progress when they feel more connected to a teacher, and when they feel that their teacher can relate to their struggles. More often than not, students can subconsciously put teachers on a pedestal and think that teachers exist only at their job, and have no interactions outside of the classroom. I wish for my students to know that I am not that far away from them, and that I am here for each and every one of them to help however I can.
