About Peter
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a musician for as long as I can remember, playing piano since the age of 4 (trained by Dr Fanny Waterman, one of the world's finest piano teachers, and founder of the Leeds International Piano Competition), and picking up several other instruments along the way. I have been singing and playing piano, saxophone, drums and bass professionally in various live bands and as a soloist for fifteen years.
I got into the teaching side of singing in 2002, when I was assisting the coaching team on the first series of X Factor, which had me working alongside some of the finest vocal coaches in the world. I have had the pleasure of working with G4, Voices With Soul, Katie Price, Anna Romensky, and a whole host of other signed and unsigned artists. I have taught vocals at Brooklands College in Weybridge for 6 years, with a 100% pass rate of Rockschool singing exam entrants from 2008-2012!
I am also a published songwriter, with tracks being picked up in the UK, the US and Germany.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
Trained in classical piano with Dame Fanny Waterman, founder of the Leeds International Piano Competition.
Trained in singing under David Laudat, former coach to X Factor, Spice Girls, Westlife, Heather Small and others
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My younger piano students are learning not only how to read music and find their way around the piano, but also composing their own pieces and enjoying an education in general musicianship. The piano is about much more than playing the right notes in the right order!
I've also found quite a few of my singing students have come to me not only to improve their techniques, but also to improve their confidence in singing in front of other people - whether solo, in a band or in a choir.

Methodology
Beginner, improver, or seasoned professional - I can help you get more out of music! You won't just learn how to play the piano or sing: you'll also get a wide and varied education in music creation and performance; gain confidence, and have fun!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano of all genres; popular singing styles, particularly pop, blues, soul and rock; and I also offer assistance with songwriting.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Piano ABRSM Grade 8 (1996); trained with Dame Fanny Waterman, founder of the Leeds International Piano Competition.
While I do not have any formal qualifications in singing, I trained in under David Laudat, former coach to X Factor, Spice Girls, Westlife, Heather Small and others, and have been teaching since 2004. I have also been teaching vocals at Brooklands College in Weybridge for the past 6 years, with a 100% pass rate from 2011's Rockschool singing exam entrants!
I am currently studying for my PhD in Music Composition at the University of Southampton.
- How much do you charge?
£20 per half hour session.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home studio in Sunbury on Thames, which is in the Teddington / Twickenham / Richmond / Kingston / Fulwell / Staines / Feltham area. I also teach music production and theory via Skype.
- When are you available?
From October I will be available on Thursdays 9-8, and Saturdays 9-5.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels from beginner to professional. I mainly teach singers of secondary school age and upwards, but I teach piano students of all ages. Music production students and theory students are, again, of all ages, but children studying music for GCSE and A-Level find sessions particularly useful.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Piano students are, if they wish, entered into ABRSM piano exams.
For singing, examinations are completely optional, but previous students have sometimes requested entry to Rockschool and Trinity Rock exams.
Additionally, year 10-11 and sixth-form students often come to me requesting help with their GCSE/A-Level coursework and examinations.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I teach music theory and production online via Skype for long-distance students. Lesson payments are then made by bank transfer.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Whatever you do in life, it's always better if you enjoy doing it, and you do it to the best of your ability.
With me, you'll learn how to be a well-rounded musician, how to push yourself to be better, and most importantly how to enjoy creating wonderful sounds.

We found Peter Falconer through a friend's recommendation, and our daughter has been a student for the past three years. Peter's lessons are great - he has a unique way of making music creative and fun, which has done wonders for our daughter's confidence and her belief in her own abilities. He's an outstanding teacher, and we highly recommend him to anyone!
Peter has been my singing teacher for over 10 years. Before I went to Peter I had never sung in public - now I sing in 2 bands. Peter is patient, kind, funny and an incredibly talented musician. He demands the best out of you, but in a very supportive way. I would recommend him to anyone.
Peter taught my son who has severe dyslexia with great patience. He built on what my son already knew from College and helped him organise his work better and explore new concepts. He helped him evaluate his compositions to make them more interesting and also improved his mixing skills.
Been a student of Peter for a while now and couldn’t recommend him more!
Dr Peter is an expert musician and very skilled music teacher. He has tutored me in composition for the last few years and I have really enjoyed every lesson. Alongside being an all-round legend, Dr Peter has motivated me to follow my ambitions in composition and gain skills in producing music with Logic Pro. By encouraging me to consider new composition techniques, I am using more live instruments and refining my arrangements, which has supported me though my MMus in Composition. I can't recommend him highly enough if you are looking for a fantastic tutor in composition, piano and singing (or the smallpipes!) who welcomes you every week with a cuppa and a smile! ️ - Patrick Deeley
Peter is a highly qualified, experienced and very talented teacher, singer and musician. He is also patient and reassuring, which is perfect for new and nervous students. As my teacher he took me from never having sung in front of even friends or family to auditioning for and singing in a band. I definitely could not have achieved this without his never ending enthusiasm, encouragement and of course the way he managed to take the seemingly impossible and make it easy for me to grasp. I owe a lot of fun, confidence and happy times to Peter’s expertise and can thoroughly recommend that anyone else does the same. I’m certain you’ll improve your singing and have a great deal of fun in the process!
