About Thomas
Hi! I’m Tom, 19-year-old tutor with over 3 years of experience, gained through Explore Learning and private tutoring. I specialise in working with students of all ages and abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN), and I pride myself on being kind, personable, and confident in my approach. I’ve supported a wide range of students in preparing for both the 11+ and GCSE exams, across major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and IGCSE. I focus not just on helping students understand the content, but also on building their confidence, exam technique, and independent thinking. My teaching style is engaging and flexible, I adapt each session to the student’s pace and learning style, aiming to make even challenging topics feel manageable and rewarding. I believe in creating a supportive, pressure-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and pushing themselves.

A typical lesson with me is structured yet highly tailored to each student’s individual needs. I begin by checking in on their current understanding and any recent work or homework, then we move into a focused session built around their specific goals and weaker areas, whether that’s comprehension, problem-solving, or exam technique. I take time to assess and isolate where a student may be struggling, using this insight to plan targeted activities that strengthen those skills while still reinforcing their overall confidence. My flexible approach means I’m always ready to adjust the pace or method depending on how the student is responding; if something isn’t clicking, we’ll try a different explanation or strategy.
