• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in childhood as I wanted to be able to make a positive difference to the health of other people. I developed a passion for teaching later into my optometry career once I had developed a wider skillset and wanted to help support others earlier on in their careers.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I have taught a range of areas within optometry, including but not exclusive to:
  - BV
  - Optics
  - Viva Preparation
  - Anatomy
  - Dispensing

• Did you have any role models; or a teacher that inspired you?

  My mother and father were very keen to give me a strong educational background, and both have inspired me to excel in my career in a way in which can help benefit others as well as myself.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Patience, a forward thinking non-judgemental attitude, empathy and a strong work ethic.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I have won a customer care award earlier on in my optometry career and also an award exceeding for budget during my time as a store manager optometrist.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  The difficulty some students face in optometry can be that the may have not understood the basics of the module they are struggling with, which can mean they struggle even more when trying to tackle more complex questions further into the academic year. For these students I recommend we cover the basics so that they can then tackle more complicated questions in an accurate way,

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I have a general passion for teaching, but I in particular enjoy teaching students in a way which works well for them. I think people have different learning styles for example some of my students find it helpful to have diagrams drawn when learning optics modules.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

  My lessons are centred around each individual students needs and different learning styles. I make a concious effort to let my students know they can interupt at any time to ask a question in order to take advantage of the 1-1 teaching enviroment. I have an extensive range of experiance within optometry and am in an excellent position to help students earlier on in their career.
