About Scott
Hi! My name is Scott, and I had to repeat the Leaving Cert in 2018.
Why is that important? It’s the year I discovered how to ‘win’ at maths. I managed to increase my total points by over 100, including taking my maths grade from 65% to 88% and applied maths from 52% to 85% between my two leaving certs.
Some may say that’s just because I was “smart enough” to do well, but I argue there’s a very fine art to performing well on a maths exam: your timing, how well you play the mental game, your approach strategy, and of course targeted preparation are all key pillars to getting a good result - not just putting your head to the books for hours on end. These are the skills I flagged for development during my repeat year, and the results speak for themselves.
If you book a grind with me, you will learn the same methods that I employed to succeed, and have taught my students to do for over 8 years. I can’t really say anything more than that, let’s find out if we have good chemistry to work together!

In my own experience, the key to any student getting the most out of their grind is to feel relaxed and comfortable with their tutor. Being a very social person, I emphasize developing a strong relationship with students during the grinds.
With regards to the maths, I put emphasis on having the student draw conclusions to problems themselves, rather than fully explain problems to them at the start. This serves two purposes: 1. It keeps the student engaged with the grind and helps to maintain their concentration. 2. It means the student will have a better chance of retaining the information they've just learned, since they arrived at the conclusion themselves.
Overall, my grinds are geared towards helping the student to sharpen the critically important skill of independent problem solving. The goal is to help the student develop a 'critical thinking' mindset which is the foundation to any question on the curriculum.
