About Darren
I'm a qualified teacher, Head of Department, and Assistant Headteacher with 25 years of experience as a GCSE and A Level examiner. Students routinely exceed their targets thanks to expert, personalised support. Teaching has always been my vocation. Providing young people with the skills and, ultimately, the qualifications to succeed in life is what motivates me.

Let’s start with what examiners actually reward. Think of it as four moves: Point → Quote → Explain → Time. Make a clear point that answers the question. Choose a short quote—just the words that carry the meaning. Explain how the language or structure creates an effect on the reader. And control your time so each question gets what it deserves. Do those four things consistently and you’re writing directly to the mark scheme. I teach with a simple sequence: I Do → We Do → You Do. First, I model (I DO) exactly what a mark-winning answer looks like and why it earns credit. Then we practise (WE DO) under timed, board-aligned conditions so structure and speed become automatic. Finally, we prove progress (YOU DO) with short weekly checks and precise feedback so you can see improvement rather than hope for it!
