About Margaret
My love for reading and writing led me to study English at Yale as an undergrad and go on to complete a PhD at UCSB. I've been teaching and tutoring ever since, in a variety of positions, working with students of all ages, from middle school through high school and college and beyond. With online classes, I've had the opportunity to work with students and writers not only from the United States but also all over the world, teaching students from North and South America, Europe, India, Asia, and Australia. (One of my most exciting moments teaching an online class was watching students from across the US, Mexico, Chile, London, Amsterdam, and Cairo connect all at once!) Writing can be overwhelming, and I specialize in helping you break it down into a step-by-step process and find success.

My goal is to help you develop the skills you need to organize your ideas, develop an argument, and structure your writing. I've helped writers all levels, from middle school through high school and college to corporate executives; I specialize in finding practical strategies to help you gain confidence and clarity in your writing. My first passion is literature, but I have experience working with young writers across all disciplines: English, history, the sciences, business, law. I especially love helping students find their voices, whether in a personal essay for a college application or a master's thesis in international business.
