  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I only started enjoying maths in 10th grade when it all started making sense and the pieces came together. I originally started private tutoring as I realised my excellent results and skillset could help me earn some pocket money, however nowadays I find it very enjoyable and fulfilling to help push students towards better grades and a more comprehensive understanding.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics, which is a very content heavy subject and it is taught in a content heavy way. Where I believe I can help is to go a bit slower and more in depth in order for students to find more enjoyment in being given a more whole understanding of the syllabus, which is often piecemeal and hard to string together.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My English teacher in year 12 taught me to enjoy English in a way that I admired, and I would love to share a similar sort of positive outlook towards learning, that is often overlooked especially when grades and syllabus material is so highly prioritised.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, a whole understanding but also a willingness to learn further when required.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I had a school friend who was just the best at explaining everything, he was better than any tutor you could imagine if you just would ask him some questions, yet he was learning everything at the same time as everyone else, just better. He didn't do heaps more homework than everyone else, but what he did do was teach everybody else, and if you can teach something you know it better than most.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

I study Software Engineering, and my main difficulty currently is switching between learning maths and learning Computer Science, and then somewhere in the middle they will meet in the middle and become the same thing, with some added Engineering disciplines.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am an avid enjoyer of most sports. Not all of them but I have played a wide range and follow and watch an even wider range of sports.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I myself still being a student means that I am student minded, which helps me relate to my own students when doing things such as deciding appropriate workloads, and when to push them harder, or slow down and take them more in depth on more important topics.
