About Amanda
As an experienced tutor mentor for about 5 years, I would like to continue to inspire students to achieve academic, personal and proffesional success. I want to reassure students that they are capable of anything they put their mind to. Moreover, I want to ensure students that it is more than okay to learn in different ways and that it's normal to mistakes; that's how we learn and grow from them. As I can relate based on my own experiences as a current student, it's important to receive individualized and inclusive education based on my needs as a learner. It would be great to connect with students beyond an academic level; as I want my students to truly succeed!

My Approach as a Tutor:
I focus on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that builds both understanding and confidence. My teaching methods are adaptable, using a mix of visual, auditory, and hands-on techniques tailored to each student’s needs. I prioritize critical thinking and problem-solving, ensuring students not only learn but also understand how to apply concepts effectively.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson begins a short ice breaker or interactive activity with my student. This ensures the student is comfortable into getting to know one another and to begin some conversation with one another. Then, we review prior material followed by an introduction to new concepts through interactive examples and practice (ex: using worksheets, watching videos, educational games etc).
Also, I like to give my students a choice if they'd like to do a non academic activity (ex: confidence building activities, introduction to a mental health and wellness toolkit for students, types of note taking, introduction to volunteer work/opportunities). This can help students with personal growth, support and success beyond academic success.
I frequently assess understanding with mini-quizzes or questions and conclude with a recap and study recommendations.
