About Andy
My name is Andy Yan and I'm attending the University of Waterloo for Honors Computer Science for the upcoming fall. I have been taking classes outside of school since I was in grade 4. Throughout my years of education, I've always enjoyed tutoring and helping people. Since grade 8, I have been actively assisting my teachers by tutoring students who may have a weaker understanding than me. The reason why I enjoy tutoring so much is that it also strengthens my knowledge of the subject, and that encourages me to become a better tutor. In order for me to be a successful tutor I also have to be a successful student. My journey of education allowed me to be admitted into one of the hardest undergraduate programs in Canada with the National Math Scholarship. I want to share my journey and education to younger minds in hopes they can achieve greatness too. I took a number of grade 12 courses as a grade 11. I have finished AP advanced functions with a 95%, grade 12 computer science with a 100% and finished Calculus and Vectors with a 96%. I also go beyond school for education. I am actively doing competitive math and coding. My greatest achievements up to date are: Winner of National Math Scholarship Pascal Math Contest (2020): Canadian Student Champion (1st/ 27880) Canadian Computing Contest Senior Division (2022): Honor Roll Group 3 (98th/3261) Canadian Computing Contest Senior Division (2023): Honor Roll Group 4 Other achievements: Honor roll: Cayley and Fermat Math Contests CSMC 2022 distinction Euclid 2022 & 2023 distinction Achieved a 5 in AP Computer Science A Other hobbies: I enjoy bodybuilding and sports(track and field)

I believe tutoring should be a special experience for students and not a continuation of school. My methodology is to build a bond between my tutees and to understand and relate to them to the best of my ability, so I can provide the optimal learning experience. In my lessons, I can help with any type of assessment from school or outside of school. I will also make the lesson very personalized for the student. My first priority is to help with any personal requests from the students, but I will also make my own judgment, and provide the extra help that will improve their understanding and grades. Lesson subjects: Curriculum math: Middle School Level, All High School Math Courses Contest math: Grade 7 - 9 Contests (Preferably Waterloo contests) Computer science/programming: Java, C++, Python, All High School Computer science courses. Competitive programming: CCC(Canadian Computing Competition) Junior level Curriculum chemistry: Grade 9 & 10
