My approach to teaching is rooted in the belief that mastering a language requires understanding its soul—its history, its literature, and its cultural evolution. Here is how I structure my classes to help you achieve true fluency:
Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I move beyond rote memorisation. My sessions utilise Comparative Philology, where we analyse the transition from Wenyanyan (Classical) to Baihuawen (Modern) to understand why the language functions as it does today.
The "Writer’s Lens": Drawing on my experience as a New Concept Writing Competition winner, I teach you how to "feel" the rhythm of the language and write with native-level elegance.
Cultural Scaffolding: I integrate historical anecdotes and cultural context into every lesson, ensuring you don't just speak Chinese, but understand the mindset behind it.
Bilingual Precision: Using my Warwick background, I provide high-accuracy English explanations for complex grammatical structures that often get lost in translation.
Lesson Details
Duration: Standard lessons are 60 minutes, though I recommend 90-minute sessions for students focusing on Classical Chinese or advanced literary analysis to allow for deep textual immersion.
Frequency: Usually 1–2 times per week, depending on your goals.
Qualifications & Experience
I am a native speaker with a National Putonghua Grade A certificate, ensuring you learn the most standard, accent-free Mandarin. My academic journey at the University of Warwick has equipped me with a professional, bilingual pedagogical approach. Having mastered both Simplified and Traditional scripts, I have years of experience helping students decode everything from ancient poetry to modern business reports.
