About Lena
Hi! I’m a violin tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Early Music, specializing in Baroque Violin. I have a deep passion for folk traditions and love teaching Irish, Scottish, American Old-Time, and other folk styles. My lessons focus on ornamentation, rhythmic bowing patterns, and ear-based learning, helping students play authentically and expressively. I use folk jam tracks, drone tuners, and repertoire-based instruction to make learning interactive and engaging. Each session is designed to develop technical skills while immersing students in the rich cultural sounds of the music. I enjoy guiding learners of all levels, whether they are beginners or more experienced players seeking to explore folk traditions. My approach encourages listening, improvisation, and playing by ear, which helps students develop confidence and musical intuition. I aim to make every lesson fun, practical, and culturally enriching. My teaching approach focuses on building strong violin skills while making learning enjoyable and meaningful. I emphasize technique-building, ear training, and musical expression so that students can play with confidence and emotion. Each lesson is designed to improve posture, bowing, fingering, and intonation, laying a solid foundation for lifelong musicianship.
I incorporate performance coaching, helping students feel comfortable and confident in front of an audience. We explore different musical styles, from classical pieces to contemporary songs, to develop versatility and creativity. I also focus on emotional expression through music, teaching students how to connect with the piece and convey its story.
For learners with a passion for performing or using violin in collaborative settings, I provide guidance tailored to their goals, whether it’s stage presence, ensemble playing, or accompanying vocals. My lessons are interactive and adaptable, incorporating exercises, improvisation, and listening activities to strengthen musical instincts.
I encourage patience, consistency, and exploration, helping students overcome challenges and celebrate progress. My goal is to nurture confidence, technical skill, and a deep love for the violin.
