I start by selecting the appropriate material for the goal of the lecture, with an emphasis on the tutee’s understanding of the subject. Usually, I briefly define the terminology and then introduce a riddle to encourage thinking about why such terminology matters. I then explore the subject as if discovering a new world. I like to ask a lot of questions in my class, mostly trivial ones, to gauge how my mentee is following the material and to demonstrate the kinds of questions one should ask themselves—like an internal dialogue. I prefer teaching subjects at the high school level, where I feel most comfortable.
