About Deryl Joy

Hi! I’m Deryl, a Psychology graduate and TEFL-certified tutor from the Philippines. I have experience providing one-on-one academic support, particularly in reading and writing. I’m patient, approachable, and attentive to each student’s needs. I understand that learning a new language can feel challenging, so I aim to create a comfortable space where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. I’m here to help you build not only your English skills, but also your confidence in using them.

About the lesson

Hi! I’m Deryl, a Psychology graduate and a TEFL-certified tutor with experience in one-on-one tutoring, especially in reading and writing. As a tutor, I believe that learning English should feel comfortable and encouraging, not intimidating.

My teaching style is patient, simple, and flexible. I don’t want students to feel pressured to give perfect answers right away, so I usually let them try first, listen to where they are struggling, and adjust my explanation from there. I also like using examples and everyday situations so students can understand how English is actually used, rather than just memorizing rules.

A typical lesson with me starts with a short warm-up or conversation to help the student feel comfortable. We then work on the main topic through guided practice, reading, speaking, or writing activities depending on the student’s needs. I also make time at the end to review what we learned and point out a few things the student can practice on their own.

My experience as a private tutor taught me that students learn differently, and sometimes they simply need someone who is patient enough to explain something in another way. My Psychology background also helps me understand the importance of listening, patience, and creating a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes.

My lessons are best suited for beginners to intermediate English learners, especially students who want to improve their everyday communication, reading, writing, vocabulary, and confidence in using English. Whether you are starting from the basics or simply want more practice speaking English, I’ll do my best to make each lesson simple, useful, and comfortable for you.
