About Nat
When I was in elementary school I had difficulty speaking due to hearing loss. Reading and writing were one of the only ways I felt confident communicating and interacting with the world around me. I quickly developed into an advanced reader, and soared to the top class percentile. Even when my hearing had started to return I continued to rely on reading to help me not only keep up, but to ultimately stay ahead of all my learning curves.
My mother grew up struggling withh dyslexia as well, and was adamant that her children would be able to read and write. I understand many struggles that come with learning not only how to read, but to understand tonality, reading comprehension and contextual understanding as a whole, and writing stories, essays and poems. From the shared struggles of my mother and my own stressors I can see where disconnect has happened between learning and the development of the internet and education in a post pandemic society.
Whenever I didn’t understand something immediately as a child (or when I had to go to tutoring as a result) I often found myself fighting with not only the frustration of wanting to understand, but the frustration that comes from feeling at fault. The truth of the matter is that many things we as students and as educators are struggling with is the unfortunate buildup of systemic issues that have been rapidly worsened as technology progresses but individual educational needs are left behind.
My ACT scores for reading and writing were near perfect - above 33 - but they were severely undervalued and went unrecognized compared to my peers whom scored higher in their STEM placements. Yet many of those same peers turned to me for help when it came time to explore more creative and personal topics in their college admissions essays.
Language is intricate in every aspect of life. When a person believes they are above the need to read or write - especially to write creatively - they have fooled themselves into believing they are above all basis for human connection. It causes my heart to hurt when I see young students especially unable to read or write at unprecedented levels. I feel frustration on a personal level for high schoolers and peers in university whom I assist (through workshopping essays and creative writing) when I see them grow frustrated with the “how” of being able to properly express their ideas through writing.
I am currently preparing to transfer to a new university for my junior year of undergrad. I am studying as a BA major with a dual focus in world languages and English composition. As I go through my own educational journey I feel a greater need to assist students and peers when I reflect on my individual struggles.
Everyone should know success is more than possible despite how far your starting point to the finish line may seem. Let’s see other through this!

I prioritize reading and writing from the most foundational levels - for example: instead of focusing on memorizing words, I focus on the phonetics of the English alphabet and essential grammatical rules that are under utilized in the age of spell check and auto-typing.
My lessons range from basic reading levels in elementary school to upper grade level writing and literature studies in middle and high school.
Many students from third grade to high school are not reading and writing at their grade level. It is a personal priority to me to see the next generation grow up thriving and able to fully communicate with the world around them. This is my main reason for becoming a tutor.
I hope to become acquainted with you soon!
