About Areeb

I started with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, then completed a Master of Science in Computer Science on the machine learning track.

From there I spent 6 years as a backend and data engineer in fintech, where I built a Python and Airflow pipeline processing 15 million transactions a day, and 5 years as a senior data engineer in health-tech. I have 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience at work and 2+ years of teaching PostgreSQL specifically, and I hold relevant PostgreSQL and SQL certifications. Students book me as a PostgreSQL tutor, instructor and mentor for PostgreSQL query writing and performance as well as data pipelines with Python and SQL, in one-on-one lessons online or in person in Henderson, NV.

I have tutored students one-to-one for over 7 years. Over those years, many of my students have earned excellent grades, and others have started their first job in tech. Teaching has run alongside that path: 2 years as a university teaching assistant for intro Python, and now 450+ students and 3,200+ hours of one-to-one lessons. About the lesson

I teach PostgreSQL to university students who want their database course, assignments and exams to make sense. I also teach Excel users moving their data into PostgreSQL.

How we progress:
- First lesson: we review your syllabus, your latest assignment and where marks are being lost.
- Following weeks: we work through joins, grouping, subqueries and schema design using your coursework.
- Then: lessons move to exam practice and harder query problems.

Each 60-minute lesson follows the same rhythm. The first five minutes are for your goals and questions. Then we review homework and do one predict-the-output warm-up. From minute 15 to 30, I introduce a new concept, queried live in PostgreSQL and code it live. The next 20 minutes are yours at the keyboard, on your own queries, database or assignment. A short quiz follows, and the last five minutes cover the recap and homework. Written notes and the queries arrive after the lesson.

My method is the Predict-Run-Build loop. Before any query runs, you predict the result. We run it and explain any surprise. Then you build the next step yourself, on your own queries, database or assignment. The written notes and code I send after each lesson are yours to keep, so you can revise between sessions without relying on memory or rewatching anything.
