About Euan

I am a recent graduate in Physics achieving a first at the University of Oxford. From my time in Oxford I have experienced how stressful it can be trying to do work you don't fully understand. To learn you must be challenged but this can be daunting. From my experience with other pupils we can work through challenging topics together, supporting you through this process. Additionally, I am a very keen hockey player, I love sport and have represented my country at junior international level.

About the lesson

The methodology behind my lessons comes from what I have experienced at Oxford. I follow an Oxford tutorial style, where the focus I put on all my lessons is active engagement with the pupil, through deep discussion of questions that get at the heart of the learning. This style allows for a well-rounded deeper understanding of the subject whilst being uniquely tailored to the needs of each pupil. Lesson outline: 1. Either before the first session or during, goals are set and a timeframe is given 2. In the first session I will give questions that test understanding in key areas, at the end of the session we will organise together what we want our next session to focus on 3. After that, each session is unique. In each session I will provide difficult questions and ask the pupil to work through the question, guiding them at each stage to build understanding through doing. At the end of each session we will agree on the subject for the next session. I will then send out questions for the student to do between sessions or leave them to tackle in the next session. This method is proven to develop problem solving, communication and confidence through supportive, active learning. There is a reason Oxford uses it.
