I look into each learner's specific request and develop an individual Learner Plan, helping to set SMART goals and giuding students towards their target.
I use tailored methodology and techniques, e.g. Differentiated instruction, Group/Individual learning. Sometimes lecture-based instruction is needed, while visual aids, elicited answers and brainstorm approach prove to be more efficient in other cases. It depends. I have experience teaching both Kids and Adults. ESL,CELPIP,learners with learning disabilities (Dyslexia, those on the spectrum, ect.). My lessons are for foreigners (can be any age) who would like to improve their level of English, to pass the CEPLIP exam for their PR/Citizenship, as well as for native Canadians who need upskilling their literacy (also basic digital literacy), Math for Employment, ect. but they cannot find/organize/systematize the internet resourses, or they are lacking learning skills to track their progress and acknowledge their success.
A typical lesson plan is a difficult item to present, because it differs from learner to learner. Usually it goes like that:
1) Warm up (eliciting/introduction of the lesson topic)
2) Homework (if any) discussion
3) New material
4) Drilling
5) Follow Up
6) Production phase (learners reproduce/create some content based on the lesson's theme)
7) Wrap up (Homework assignment, specifying the next lesson time, conclusion).
Speaking about the degree, level, and class. ESL - Levels 0-10 CLB. (as a Ukrainian, I strongly believe that only native speakers can teach true level 10; however, local Canadian adults ask me to help them with Grammar, Spelling and Essay/Summary/Resume writing skills). Math - High School Math (not Advanced Functions, though). I need to hear your request, and I can tell you if I am able to handle that level or not. In the majority of cases, it takes me some time to look into your situation, and I come up with the idea how to tacke the problem. Besides, I am very helpful when it comes to emotional regulation techniques (Tapping for Anxiety, Affirmations, Journalling for Mental Helth, Psychoanalysis).
What sets me apart as a tutor. Probably the fact that I like teaching, and also I love people (this is mutual). I am highly empathetic, easily detecting interlocutor's emotions and intentions. People tend to turn to me for psychological help. I ususally help to find free sites for learners to benefit from, I serve as a reference and try to connect learners with employers /useful contacts. I would say, my strongest point as a tutor is being interested in what I am doing. I am capable of teaching slowly, with patience; if needed, it does not hurt to repeat the same step a million times. I have vast experience with low level students who dropped from High School or did not have an opportunity to study at all, due to difficult life circumstances.
