About Rebecca
Hi! I'm Rebecca, a passionate final-year Chemistry and Forensic Analytical Science student at the University of Otago. Chemistry isn't just my field of study—it's a subject I genuinely love and want to help others understand and appreciate. My journey in chemistry has been incredibly rewarding. From achieving top grades in challenging courses to conducting cutting-edge research on space chemistry (yes, chemistry happens in space too!), I've discovered that success comes from truly understanding concepts, not just memorizing them. This philosophy drives my teaching approach. As a laboratory demonstrator at the university, I've guided hundreds of students through complex experiments and seen firsthand how the right explanation can turn confusion into clarity. Whether it's helping a struggling student finally grasp electron configurations or coaching high-achievers to push beyond excellence, I find deep satisfaction in those "aha!" moments. What sets me apart is my recent student perspective—I understand the challenges you're facing because I've been there. I remember what it's like to feel overwhelmed by organic chemistry mechanisms or stressed about upcoming exams. This experience, combined with my forensic science background, means I can offer unique insights and real-world applications that make chemistry relevant and engaging. Beyond academics, I'm approachable, patient, and genuinely invested in your success. I believe everyone can excel in chemistry with the right support and guidance. Let's work together to unlock your potential and achieve your academic goals!

About Lessons I bring a unique blend of academic excellence and hands-on teaching experience to every tutoring session. As a laboratory demonstrator at the University of Otago, I've developed proven methods for breaking down complex chemistry concepts into manageable, understandable pieces. My approach focuses on building strong foundational understanding while developing problem-solving skills essential for exam success. Teaching Methodology: I customize each lesson to match your learning style, combining visual aids, practical examples, and real-world applications. Having achieved A+ grades in advanced chemistry courses, I understand what examiners look for and teach strategic approaches to maximize marks. I use active learning techniques, encouraging questions and providing plenty of practice problems with detailed feedback. Qualifications & Experience: Current BSc student (Chemistry & Forensic Analytical Science) with 7.1/9 GPA Laboratory demonstrator supervising 100+ university students A+ grade in independent research project Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship recipient Class representative for multiple chemistry courses Lesson Structure: Sessions typically run 60-90 minutes, allowing time for concept review, new material, practice problems, and addressing specific concerns. I provide summary notes and additional resources after each session. Who I Teach: University students: First-year chemistry and forensic science courses NCEA students: All levels, particularly Level 2-3 Chemistry IB students: Chemistry and Biology (SL/HL) Adult learners preparing for university entrance I'm passionate about helping students not just pass exams, but truly understand and enjoy chemistry. Whether you're aiming for excellence or need support with challenging concepts, I'll work with you to achieve your goals.
