About Lisa
I am a lecturer in physics at a UK university, and have over 10 years of experience in teaching students of all ages, from primary school to degree level. I am LGBT friendly, and champion inclusivity, wellbeing, and equity for all. I have experience in teaching SEN students, and tailor my approach to suit each individual. Alongside lecturing, I am also the Admissions Tutor for physics at my university, and as a result, have a deep knowledge of UK university admissions processes, from applications to Personal Statements. Having struggled myself at school and subsequently needing to go through the Clearing process in order to get into university, I know first-hand what it can be like to lack belief and confidence in one's abilities academically. I have learnt that, very often, the approach to teaching taken in schools is very much 'aimed at the masses', and in reality, many students don't learn best using this format. Re-framing what needs to be learnt can really aid understanding, as well as providing a greater context to the work being studied. My approach focuses on what really works for each individual, whilst also encouraging them to believe in themselves, and their ability. I always encourage feedback from my students, so that if my approach isn't working for them, then I can re-think and optimise the way I teach. I believe communication and understanding are key, and I always draw upon my years of academic and teaching experience, to ensure that the student is making progress, gaining a greater grasp of the subject, and of course, happy with the tutoring experience.

I specialise in both maths & physics, offering long-term and short-term tutoring, as well as 'booster' sessions for students needing help with a particular topic. During an hour-long lesson, I will break the session into two 25-minute parts, with a 5 minute break halfway through, as I believe this is best for knowledge retention. I use a writing tablet, and always encourage interactivity during my lessons. I am friendly and always open to feedback - that is a key factor in my teaching.
