About Andie
Hi! I’m 18 years old and a freshman studying Civil Engineering at a university in California. While I love building things and learning about engineering, I also enjoy teaching Mandarin—especially to kids who are excited to learn the language for fun or just out of curiosity! I lived in China for 12 years, and I still speak Mandarin at home, so my skills are very strong. To keep my Chinese sharp, I read lots of books in Chinese, making sure I stay fluent. I’m patient, full of energy, and always aim to make learning fun. Parents can trust that I’ll be a friendly and dependable tutor, helping your child feel confident as they grow their Mandarin skills!

Mandarin
At the start, I ask a few questions to see how much Mandarin my students already know. This helps me figure out if they’re just beginning or if they already have some familiarity with the language. From there, I create a lesson plan that focuses on improving speaking and listening skills first, before diving into reading and writing. I specialize in teaching kids aged 3 to 15, so I make sure each lesson is engaging and fun. My classes include learning pinyin, reading short stories, and discovering new words and phrases in a playful way. By using stories and pictures, I help kids connect with the language naturally, making learning an enjoyable experience. At the beginning of each class, I review what they’ve learned before, and I adjust their study plan if needed. This helps every student feel confident and stay on track with their Mandarin skills.
