About Matthew
My name is Matthew, and I am an Engineering graduate from the University of Cambridge with a long-standing interest in mathematics and physics. These subjects have shaped both my academic path and the way I think about problems more broadly.
I began tutoring five years ago alongside my studies, initially to support younger students who were struggling with confidence in quantitative subjects. Over time, I found that I genuinely enjoyed the process of helping students move from uncertainty to clarity. There is something deeply rewarding about seeing a difficult concept finally click.
I teach because I value the intellectual discipline that maths and physics develop. They train logical thinking, resilience and precision, skills that extend far beyond exams. I want students not only to improve their grades, but to feel capable and in control of challenging material.
For me, tutoring is about guiding students to realise that complex problems can be broken down, understood and mastered with the right approach and effort.

My approach to tutoring is structured, analytical and focused on deep understanding rather than memorisation. I am an Engineering graduate from the University of Cambridge, and bring a rigorous problem-solving mindset to every lesson.
With five years of tutoring experience, I have supported students in achieving top grades and securing admission to highly competitive schools and universities, including Eton and Cambridge. I understand the level of precision, confidence and mathematical maturity required to perform at that standard.
In maths and physics, students often struggle not through lack of ability, but through gaps in fundamentals or uncertainty when tackling unfamiliar problems. I focus on rebuilding clarity from first principles, strengthening reasoning and developing strong exam technique under pressure.
Lessons are typically 60 to 90 minutes and combine clear explanation, guided problem solving and progressively challenging questions to build independence. For strong students, I provide extension material to stretch thinking beyond the syllabus.
My aim is to develop confident, independent problem solvers who can perform at their best in high level academic environments.
