About Elena
Hi, I’m Elena — an award-winning songwriter, qualified music tutor, and experienced session musician with over a decade of hands-on experience in the music industry. I specialize in guitar, voice, and songwriting, and I’m passionate about helping students grow in confidence, creativity, and technical ability — no matter their starting point. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Pop from the University of Auckland, with formal training in performance, production, music theory, and composition. I also hold a Grade 8 Guitar Diploma from the Royal London College of Music and have trained under many prestigious vocal tutors in NZ. I’ve spent the past 10+ years working across theater, film, live performance, and studio settings. My teaching style is warm, adaptable, and student-focused. I combine technical foundations with creativity, using real songs, performance techniques, and optional songwriting to keep lessons engaging and relevant. I incorporate modern tools like Logic Pro, Sibelius, and Ableton to support today’s aspiring musicians — whether you’re a beginner just picking up your first instrument or an advanced student preparing for auditions, recordings, or live shows. Lessons are available for students aged 10 and up, and can be tailored to suit casual learners, serious musicians, or those returning to music after time away. With every student, my goal is to provide structure, encouragement, and real musical growth — all in a relaxed, inspiring environment. Let’s make music something you love for life.

My Approach to Tutoring
As a qualified music tutor with over a decade of experience, I take a student-centered and adaptive approach to teaching guitar and voice. Whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced student refining performance and songwriting skills, my goal is to create a supportive, engaging space that aligns with your personal learning style and goals.
Techniques & Teaching Methodology - My lessons blend technical skill-building with creativity:
- For guitar: I focus on technique, rhythm, chord theory, improvisation, and style-specific approaches (pop, rock, acoustic, etc.).
- For voice: I incorporate breath control, vocal health, tone, range, and expression.
I often use real songs to teach theory and application, encouraging students to explore songwriting and performance as they grow. I integrate notation and software tools (Sibelius, Logic Pro, etc.) when relevant, giving students a modern and practical edge.
Each lesson is designed to be interactive, paced to your needs, and includes warm-ups, exercises, repertoire work, and optional recording feedback.
Typical Lesson Length
Lessons typically run for:
30 minutes for younger students or beginners
45 to 60 minutes for intermediate to advanced learners or those preparing for exams, auditions, or performances
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Music (Contemporary Pop) – University of Auckland
Grade 8 Guitar Diploma – Royal London College of Music
10+ years of professional experience as a songwriter, performer, session musician, and theatre composer
Worked extensively with youth and adult learners in both individual and group settings
Strong knowledge of Logic Pro, Ableton, Pro Tools, and other digital tools useful for modern musicians
