About Michael
I'm Michael - an aspiring philosopher and a lifelong lover of learning. I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews, where I got my undergraduate and Masters degrees in Philosophy. My program was ranked #1 in the UK!
I care less about achievements, though, and more about helping others and sharing the insights that I have gained over the years. Showing someone else not only how to memorize, but engage and critically think about an issue or concept is the most valuable skill you can teach, and it is sadly in short supply nowadays. However, I often find that my students have lots to teach me, too!

My approach to teaching is influenced by the Socratic method, engaging in dialogues with the student to improve not only language skills but their ability to conceptualize, contextualize, and reflect on the lesson to grow their understanding.
I have worked as a tutor for much of my University career in philosophy and classics, which allowed me to sharpen my own skills while doing something I enjoy; connecting with my students to help improve not only their grades but also their practices and outlooks on life - how they relate to and navigate the world.
In just an hour, we will cover "hard" skills like grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, but also "soft" skills like idiomatic language, critical thinking, and cultural practices. These lessons are meant for intermediate to advanced English speakers of all ages, although beginners will be considered.
