I have always been passionate about studying maths and science, and I am equally passionate about sharing this love with others. I believe that having a personal mentor is not only beneficial but necessary for realising potential. As such, I take a student-centred approach to my lessons, constantly adapting my teaching methods to best suit the student's individual needs. From personal experience, I have learnt that one hour of personally tailored mentoring is vastly more helpful (and engaging!) than 10 hours of a generic, one-size-fits-all approach.
I also appreciate and take into account everyone's individual goals - some may be looking to improve exam grades, while others may want to compete in high-level Olympiads from personal interest or ambition. I will always adapt the lesson to best achieve this goal, maybe through a focus on exam technique, prioritising understanding over memorisation, or developing strategies to beat crushing time pressure.
Here is a summary of the lessons I offer:
- Public exams, including GCSEs and A-levels, in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science - £30/hour
- University entrance exams, specifically TMUA, STEP and ESAT (excluding the Biology module) - £40/hour
- Olympiads and competitions - £50/hour
- Specialising in UKMT maths challenges (BMO1 & 2, Cayley, Hamilton and Maclaurin Olympiads, Kangaroos, SMC, IMC, JMC, JMO, offering cheaper rates (£40/hour) for junior and intermediate levels)
- Also offering physics challenges (IPC, SPC, BPhO) and Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge (all rounds)
- Maths tutoring for primary school, including SATs and 11-plus exams preparation - £25/hour
For advanced maths tutoring (STEP, BMO1 & 2) I take pride in my expertise in problem solving, constantly pushing keen students to a deep understanding of the techniques required for these papers. This enables the student to apply these techniques to increasingly complex scenarios, and keep boosting their problem solving capabilities. These types of problems require creative and abstract thinking, which I encourage through a combination of carefully chosen examples and closely working through problems with the student. I think many students would be surprised by how much they can improve with close mentoring!

As the Assistant Principal of the secondary school Arthur worked in, I am pleased to recommend him for any tutoring or student support role. Arthur has worked effectively with both KS3 and KS4 students, demonstrating patience, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.
Arthur builds positive relationships quickly and creates a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks in their learning. His calm, approachable manner inspires trust and confidence, helping students to engage positively and develop greater self-belief.
Arthur is reliable, encouraging, and adapts his approach to meet the needs of individual students. He has consistently demonstrated the ability to motivate learners, strengthen their confidence, and support them in making progress both academically and personally.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Arthur and believe he would be a valuable asset to any educational setting.I have known Arthur for a number of years and he has worked for me as a tennis coach. He is very diligent and reliable and a very good teacher so I would highly recommend him in any teaching field.
Highly recommend Arthur! He has been tutoring my daughter in preparation for her 11 plus exam.
She loves the lessons. And never resists going to them.
Arthur explains things in a way that she can grasp. I have often sent him Maths questions that she has struggled with, and he is able to help her understand them by the end of the lesson.
