About Setayesh
The UCSD data science department is a sister department to UC Berkeley's, so I am no stranger to rigorous academics and challenging material. I speak five languages (English, Farsi, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean) and have experience teaching these foreign languages to students of all ages and backgrounds. I understand how difficult learning can be, and how it sometimes will simply require time, reinforcement, and repetition to solidify. I am patient and understanding. I have given colleagues crash-course tutoring before if they are struggling in their coursework and they have all excelled, no matter how behind they were.
Teaching others the same things that brought me so much joy makes me excited! Especially when I get to see them do well! One of my favorite parts of tutoring, besides passing down knowledge, is connecting with my students and becoming a resource for them. Academics challenges everyone, even the most gifted, in different ways. The question is can your teacher identify and adapt to each student's challenges? I believe I can, as I have done so before, and will continue to do so. I truly want everyone to succeed and feel confident in their academic abilities!

AP mathematics courses do not properly prepare students for the rigor of collegiate mathematics. I noticed this even at my university (UC San Diego), which is on par with UCLA and Berkeley in many departments. The issue with AP math is that the curriculum doesn't go in depth enough to promote true learning --this responsibility is pushed to the teacher, who may or may not give it the time and care it needs. I am able to help students learn these crucial fundamentals of calculus deeply and at their own pace, while ensuring they score excellently both in class and on the AP test. Furthermore, I have a great love for calculus, and I aim to share that passion with my students.
Collegiate requirements for English-related skills (such as analytical writing, text comprehension, and academic syntax) are much higher than high school and often require students to adapt to each professor's preferences, regardless of if they are comfortable with the preferred style. I am able to make sure students understand how to write well and be flexible with their writing, even with vague instructions.
My tutoring is available for high schoolers mainly, though I can also teach younger students algebra. Students do not necessarily have to be enrolled in the APs I offer as I can also give preparatory instruction.
I follow the AP curriculum while ensuring I go into the proper, appropriate depth for collegiate preparation for the student. I give graded math and writing practice, and I am open to adjusting to students' needs based on how their coursework is going. I am available for assistance in understanding and making sure students can complete homework/assignments well (with an emphasis on them learning the content; I will not solve homework problems for students). My foremost goal is to ensure students learn well enough that their scores reflect it and they feel comfortable tackling harder curriculum.

"She gets me" is how I felt during every session. Whether I was struggling or finding things easy, she always found the perfect pacing for me and made learning feel natural. She was an amazing teacher who helped me through Calculus! I highly recommend her for anyone learning math.
