About Aland
I am a graduating senior at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). My primary area of study is computer science, with an extension into engineering mathematics. My hobbies include game design, web development, and casual hackathons.
I am a member of UCLA's computer science honors society, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, where I not only serve as a mentor for incoming computer science students, but also invest 2-4 hours weekly tutoring and supervising other tutors.
My main areas of expertise are engineering and mathematics.
Programming Languages: Proficient in C, C++, C# (Unity, dotnet), Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Chakra, Vite, Electron), Java, ELisp, Shell Script (Linux/Bash), Assembly (x86-64, MIPS), Golang, SQL.

I strongly believe in using intuitive explanations to illustrate abstract concepts. This can only be done through close interactions with the students to understand how they think, process, and apply information.
Before a lesson, I'll ask the student for their syllabus or study plan to understand what they could potentially be struggling with. During the lesson, I'll gauge the student's understanding of a subject by having them explain the concept to me first. Once properly assessed, I'll focus on boiling down the concepts to concise, simple explanations and example problems. After the lesson, I'll recommend or prepare review and practice material for the tutee to do in their own time with the sole purpose of solidifying their understanding of newly learned concepts.
As a tutor, I rigorously uphold the following virtues: patience, empathy, and kindness. Learning is not effective without these core tenets.
My lessons are primarily for any student below university level, namely K-12, and extend to university lower-division mathematics and computer science courses.
