About Elizabeth
I am a current PhD candidate at UCL who loves tutoring because it allows me to use a skill I have honed to make a genuine difference in someone’s life. Having spent the past eight years in highly competitive academic environments, I have developed strong academic skills — particularly in science and mathematics — which I can now employ to make learning easier and more engaging for others. I have always loved discussing mathematics and science, but I am aware that teaching in these subjects is often underdeveloped in schools, something that I found very frustrating during my own education. Tutoring allows me to share my enthusiasm and help students engage with the material in a way that builds both confidence and curiosity while addressing this gap.
Academically, I bring both depth and breadth. Prior to my PhD at UCL, I completed my Master's at the prestigious Perimeter Institute in Canada in Physics, where my thesis was on quantum gravity. I achieved a First in my undergraduate, which was an accelerated joint degree in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Edinburgh, where I completed the four year degree in three years, including winning a prize for best in year. At school, I achieved A* in all of my subjects, maintaining the highest possible grades across my entire academic record.

I tailor each lesson to the individual student, focusing on building both strong conceptual understanding and the skills needed to succeed in exams. My teaching style combines clear, intuitive explanations with structured practice: I begin with short recap questions to reinforce prior knowledge, then introduce new ideas step by step, encouraging students to explain concepts back to me to ensure genuine understanding. I also integrate exam strategies — breaking down mark schemes, creating revision timetables, and developing problem-solving techniques — so students build independence and approach assessments with confidence.
Lessons are typically 1 hour, either in person (within 30 minutes of Westminster) or online.
I have several years’ experience tutoring GCSE and A-level students, both as a freelance tutor throughout my undergraduate degree and as a volunteer for Tutor the Nation. My lessons are particularly suited to students aiming for top results in GCSEs, A-levels, or university entrance, whether they need to stretch beyond the curriculum or prepare intensively for exams.
