About Wing Yan
I have recently graduated from UCL, studying Economics. I've always really enjoyed maths and was excited about learning different approaches to maths problems. I have done several maths tutoring in the past few years, which has been very enjoyable, especially being able to help the students reach the grade they need.
It is more than just teaching them the right answers, but making sure the students understand why that is the answer and be able to guide them there. I will help the students to break the questions down, and helping them to see that all maths questions can be tackled easily with the right exam techniques. I also hope to help the students gain more confidence in facing their maths problems. I found that doing past papers was a great way to practice as I'd be able to highlight in which areas I am struggling and look into that topic for revision.

The session will start off with a quick 10 minutes recap from the previous session to refresh the memory. After that, I will start a new topic, starting with an explanation with examples. If the student is comfortable with the explanation given for the topic, then it is over to the student to attempt a question. And from there, I will be able to further pick up on things that I may need to explain on/ suggest for improvement. More questions will then be completed for practice. I can assess whether the student has understood the topic well by the way they are answering the questions in confidence and are able to explain their working outs. I also take feedback from the plenary of how the student felt about the topic covered in the session.
The topics that we go over in the sessions will be based on the topics the students may feel the need for more support in. And the structure of the sessions may vary, for example, if they would like to go over the exam techniques or past paper practices.
It is important that the lessons are planned in the way that best suits the way the student learns, to keep them engaged in the session, and help them understand the topics much better. It is always important to be practicing questions in the session so that they are not just listening throughout, but also applying and learning from what has been covered.
