About Farzana
I am a Cambridge University engineer, highly proficient in Maths and Engineering Physics. I graduated at the top of my Mechanical Engineering class in June 2019.
I am very familiar with the UCAS application process and I have over 4 years of experience helping students write their Personal Statements. I have coached students who got accepted into Cambridge, Bristol, Birmingham, Surrey and Swansea Universities, among others. I have experience in working with both humanities and science subject applications, including those applying for Law and Engineering.
Besides one-on-one Personal Statement coaching, I have a wide variety of teaching experience, including:
- Tutoring Engineering and Maths for high school and university students
- Teaching large English as a Second Language classes in summer camps in Japan
- Teaching reading and drama to primary school students
Away from academics, I am an active footballer and runner and enjoy travelling and cooking. In 2018, I interned at McKinsey & Company London as a Summer Business Analyst and will be joining as a full-time Business Analyst in January 2020. These experiences all contribute to my ability to provided an all-rounded approach to tutoring.

My approach towards coaching Personal Statement writing is to ensure that all the ideas and content on the Personal Statement are entirely generated by the student themselves, to ensure originality, authenticity and creativity of the document.
I have over the years developed a 6 paragraph general structure that greatly helps to break down the Personal Statement into much more manageable pieces that can be worked on independently. For students starting their Personal Statement from scratch, this would be a helpful guide. In addition, Personal Statement coaching will cover:
- Brainstorming for relevant ideas to go into a Personal Statement
- Writing of a first draft, with no word initial limit
- Selecting the most important content and trimming the first draft down
- Proofreading and reviewing the final document
For students who already have a draft of their Personal Statement, I am able to review the document, offering advice on the strong points within the statement and tips on how to improve it to make it more punchy. This could include looking at the language style, order and content of ideas or a general spelling and grammar check of the document.
My aim is to get students to be confident in and satisfied with their final Personal Statement. Finally, best of luck to all doing their UCAS applications!

Farzana is literally one of the major reasons I made it to Cambridge. She helped me tailor my personal statement for engineering. She did this by providing advice and guidance that helped me develop my ability to phrase things well. In addition, she never hesitated to go out of her way to make sure she was available when I needed her help the most. She is very systematic and passionate in her delivery of concepts!
I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student, I was tutored by Farzana through my examinations last year. I am pleased by the manner in which she easily explains and passes on the difficult concepts in my course.
