About Zoe
About Me I am currently a PhD Researcher at the University of the Arts London (UAL) and hold a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art (RCA). My practice operates at the cutting edge of critical theory, AI ethics, and immersive storytelling. As an active researcher and exhibiting artist, my work has been featured at world-leading venues, including the Pompidou Center (IRCAM) in Paris and Outernet London. I also bring rigorous academic experience from my time as a researcher at the Tsinghua University Future Laboratory and the Creative Ecology Lab. My Teaching Philosophy I believe that successful art and design is built on a foundation of "Research-Led Practice." I do not just teach technical skills; I mentor students on how to construct defensible academic arguments and validate their creative intuition with rigorous methodologies. Teaching Approach: Research-Led Practice & Critical Inquiry My Methodology As a PhD Researcher at UAL and an RCA Alumnus, my teaching philosophy is rooted in "Research-Led Practice." I do not merely teach software skills; I guide students to construct a rigorous academic framework that validates their creative output. My goal is to help you transform intuitive ideas into defensible, high-impact research arguments suitable for top-tier academic institutions. 1. Constructing Theoretical Frameworks (Critical Context) I guide students to move beyond surface-level aesthetics by grounding their work in critical theory. Approach: We will identify relevant philosophical and sociological frameworks (e.g., Post-humanism, Algorithmic Ethics, Embodied Cognition) to contextualise your practice. Outcome: Your portfolio will demonstrate deep critical thinking, positioning your work within contemporary academic discourse. 2. Rigorous Research Methodologies (Mixed-Methods) Admissions panels look for evidence-based design. I teach how to integrate scientific rigour into art and design processes. Approach: I introduce Interdisciplinary Research Methods, combining Quantitative Data Analysis (e.g., visualising algorithmic bias) with Qualitative Fieldwork (e.g., auto-ethnography, user testing, and social intervention). Outcome: Your projects will possess a strong "evidence chain," proving that your design solutions are derived from solid research rather than speculation. 3. Advanced Technological Integration (Technical Execution) I bridge the gap between conceptual complexity and technical feasibility. Approach: I provide high-level mentorship in Emerging Technologies (VR/XR, AI-Generative Content, Interactive Systems), ensuring that technology serves the narrative rather than overshadowing it.
