About Sarah
English is a great passion of mine and I hope to evoke a similar excitement in my students. I am a consistently top-scoring student, achieving an A* and almost full marks at A-Level, as well as studying English at one of the UK's top universities. I tutored several students whilst at school, including classmates, and younger students at GCSE level. The texts I studied at A-level were Othello, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Great Gatsby, Seamus Heaney's Poetry, When Will There Be Good News? and Macbeth.

The objectives of my lessons include improving a student's ability to independently 1. analyse language/structure/form closely 2. think creatively and widely about a text and its context 3. stay focused and relevant in essays, whilst using sophisticated language 4. structure a powerful and engaging argument My lessons are flexible and will mirror the ability level and learning style of my student. For example, if 'exam technique' is a goal, then a session may focus on producing efficient and detailed plans, or how to make the most out of an unseen text. In order to achieve a student-specific timeline, I would read and preview their work prior to a session, and discuss what they want to gain from tutoring with them (and their parents, if required). I may assign light homework, or request to see updated school work whilst working with the student.
