About Ryan

Hi, I’m Ryan, a Radiation Therapy student at Trinity College Dublin. I sat my Leaving Cert in 2024 at St Paul’s College, Raheny, where I got H1s in both Chemistry and Biology and 566 CAO points. I was also a school prefect, captain of the senior hurling team, and was named the school’s Irish Student of the Year.

Science has always been my strongest area, and Chemistry is a subject I really enjoy because everything fits together once you understand the basics. I want to teach because I remember how stressful the Leaving Cert can feel. Not long ago I was in the same position, and I know that the right explanation or a bit of encouragement can make a huge difference to a student’s confidence and results.

Outside of college, I chair Trinity’s Movember Society, I’m a Healthy Trinity Ambassador, and I volunteer every year on the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. These roles have taught me to be patient, reliable and good at working with people of all ages.

I got a H1 in Leaving Cert Chemistry in 2024 and 566 CAO points, and I’m now studying Radiation Therapy at Trinity College Dublin, a science-based degree. I sat the exam recently, so I know exactly what the current course and exam expect and what it takes to get a top grade.

Who the lessons are for: Leaving Cert Chemistry students at Higher and Ordinary Level, and Junior Cycle Science students who want a strong foundation before starting Chemistry for the Leaving Cert.

How I teach: Every lesson is built around the student. In the first session I find out where they’re strong, where they’re struggling and what grade they’re aiming for. From there, I focus on:

Breaking down the topics students find hardest, like mole calculations, organic chemistry and equilibrium, step by step
Lots of practice with calculations until they become second nature
Learning the definitions and keywords the examiners look for
Working through the mandatory experiments, which come up every year
Practising past exam questions and going through the marking schemes, so students learn exactly how marks are awarded
Exam technique, timing and choosing the right questions on the day

Lesson length: Lessons are usually 60 minutes, online or in person in North Dublin. Shorter sessions or exam-focused blocks are available before the mocks and the Leaving Cert.

I’m patient, friendly and easy to talk to. Chemistry can seem confusing at first, but once the basics click, it becomes one of the most logical subjects on the course. My goal is for every student to understand it properly and walk into their exam feeling confident.
