About Sophia
I am Sophia! I am a first-year neuroscience student at the University of Exeter. After growing up in a trilingual environment and giving me the exposure to different languages and cultures, I began to appreciate the wonders of speaking multiple languages in my everyday life and I want to make that opportunity available for each student too. Going to summer camp in Latvia every year and talking with the children there, made me realise that learning English just in schools without having the exposure to it outside of lessons makes it difficult to improve their competency. Learning grammar and spelling is important, but the bridge between being a learner of a language and a speaker of a language requires a bit more than just learning the tenses. Having just a few lessons a week will improve not only your speech, but your overall skill of the English Language.

I believe that the lack of exposure to spoken English hinders language development in students across the world. Speaking the language you are learning will develop your reasoning and improve your confidence not only in speaking English, but also in writing and reading too. Before our lessons, we would prepare a discussion on a specific topic and converse in English, and feedback will be given throughout the lesson. Reading articles together about certain topics will deepen understanding and aid the discussion portion of our lessons. The lessons will last 45 minutes to one hour. These lessons are for all Russian speaking students of any age looking to develop their English speech, focusing on everyday idioms and pronunciation, to allow more confidence in their spoken English abilities.
