About Tom
I am a trained graduate Mathematics Teacher with a degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have been a teacher for over 25 years and have worked in the mainstream (11 – 19) and special secondary schools.
I enjoy teaching and seeing students reach their full potential and become confident with Mathematics.

My objective with tutoring is to develop the student into a successful learner who can confidently tackle a task with a good understanding of the subject area and extensive experience with relevant questions.
The design of my teaching sessions reflects the student's abilities and needs in a targeted, efficient, and bespoke manner to develop their mathematical thinking.
I teach in a supportive, encouraging, relaxed style to motivate the student. I explain concepts in an easy-to-understand, flexible way to ensure a complete grasp of the topic. The student is encouraged to answer questions to ensure understanding and to talk through their solution method. However, it is always brilliant when a student gains a complete understanding of a topic immediately. When the student does not understand, the issues are dealt with patience, empathy, and encouragement—using different approaches to the topic area until the student can answer the question.
Examination students are exposed to many appropriate questions and an analysis of the instructions/ rubric to ensure that they are aware of what the exam boards want to see and how they want to see it.
