About Sofia
Hi there, as a 4th-year medical student at the University of Manchester, I combine academic expertise with practical experience to help students succeed and feel confident in their exams. I studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Spanish at A-level and now approach these subjects with a deeper perspective gained through medicine, making complex ideas clear and relatable. I’ve successfully tutored my sister and her friends, helping them boost confidence, improve understanding, and achieve tangible results. In my lessons, I focus on helping students go beyond memorising, encouraging deep understanding so they can go on to apply knowledge confidently. Having students actively engage with material, break topics into manageable steps and connect ideas across subjects is often not the focus of learning at this stage, but absolutely vital to achieve top grades. I use evidence-based learning techniques, including retrieval practice, spaced repetition, and active recall, to help knowledge stick. Students also practise explaining concepts in their own words, solving varied problems, and applying ideas to real-world examples. Lessons usually last 60–90 minutes and are tailored to each student’s pace, strengths, and goals. I aim to build both confidence and independence while keeping lessons engaging and effective. Lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-Level students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Spanish, delivered in Manchester or online :)
