About Kiya
I am a junior at James Madison University majoring in Political Science with minors in History, Social Justice Studies, and Russian Studies. As a college student in writing- and reading-intensive fields, I regularly work with academic essays, research papers, scholarly readings, and written arguments. I also work as a substitute teacher, which has given me experience working with students of different ages, abilities, and learning styles. I am patient and encouraging, and I understand that reading and writing do not come easily to everyone. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and taking the time they need to understand something.

My English tutoring helps students become stronger, more confident readers and writers. Rather than simply correcting an assignment, I want students to understand how they can improve their own work. I can help with essay organization, thesis statements, grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, research papers, citations, and revising and editing. Each lesson will be based on what the student is currently working on and where they need the most support. We can review assignments together, brainstorm ideas, outline essays, analyze readings, practice writing skills, or prepare for upcoming tests. My goal is to make English assignments feel more manageable while helping students build skills they can use independently.
