About Zach
Hola, soy Zach. I'm the gringo behind Spanish With A Gringo. Though you may want a native speaker to be your teacher, there are some advantages to a gringo:
1. I know what it's like to learn Spanish because I was in your shoes.
2. I'm learning French at the moment, so I'm currently in your shoes.
3. I run a translation company and work with enterprise companies. If they trust me, I think you should, too.
4. I have a degree in Spanish.
With nearly a decade of teaching experience under my belt (6,000+ classes), my philosophy is simple: Enfócate, equivócate, enamórate. This basically translates to: Focus, make mistakes, and fall in love. If you can do those three things, learning a language is a breeze.
The consultation is free and you can go to (concealed information) to learn more.
As a sign of good faith, here's a tip:
- "Tengo" in Spanish means "I have" but only when you have a thing. "Tengo un perro", "Tengo una esposa", "Tengo una idea"
- "Tengo que" means "I have to" do something. "Tengo que trabajar" = "I have to work" / "Tengo que hablar contigo" = "I have to talk to you"
Did you already know that? Ok, show off. Book that consultation so you can show me what else you already know.
I'll wait.

Spanish With A Gringo has our own curriculum that students follow. If you believe that you can learn Spanish without ever learning to conjugate a verb, then we may not be a good fit. It took me 10 years to be what many consider "fluent." It wasn't easy. But it is possible.
Beginners usually follow that curriculum. By the end of Unit 1, students should be able to talk about future plans and activities.
For those that can already hold a basic conversation, we'll typically spend the first 30 minutes of the lesson in a conversation. Then in the second half of the lesson, we'll go over homework, start a new topic, or practice with a role-play.

Perfect! 1000 ⭐️s!!! Hands down THE BEST teacher I've ever had! I learned more Spanish in 2 months than 3 years of Spanish in High School. Classes are fun, applicable, organized, and individualized. I greatly appreciate all the resources, materials and tools he offers and how much time and effort has gone into creating such an efficient, organized, and fun way to learn Spanish. I always look forward to my classes. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Spanish With A Gringo!
Perfect! I am more than pleased to have connected with Zach and have been taking classes with him for about 3 months now. His approach to teaching has already given me more of an ability to finally learn Spanish than any classes, public or private to date. His lesson notes are always very friendly in tone, succinct, easy to understand and apply — and get me “on my feet” quickly with the week’s study.
A difference in studying with Zach for me is —through use of the various study modules on patterns, rules, sentence structures, etc. — I am experiencing studying the language from the inside out i.e. I’m learning the building blocks of the language and how to put them together. Everything else then more easily follows. I’ve also recently realized —- and couldn’t be happier about it — I don’t feel intimated by the journey of learning a language anymore since starting to study with Zach.
And Zach always wants it to be fun! If you are having a bad day, are in a not-so-great mood or perhaps “dragging your feet” at the thought of clicking into the Zoom session one day, just do it. By the end of class, your day and mood —guaranteed — will be brighter.
Meet with Zach and let him introduce himself. I think you’ll be glad you did. Ask him why he is studying French. I feel his answer will tell you all you need to know about him as an instructor and why he is someone you’ll want to know and also call “Prof Zach.”Perfect! Zach is a great teacher. I enjoy our classes because they give me real life conversational practice that I'm unable to get at my university. He's great at personalizing your learning and calling attention to the areas that need improvement. I'd definitely recommend SWAG to others looking to learn Spanish as a second language
Perfect! I’ve been doing classes with Zach for a little over a month now, and I’ve really been enjoying it. He paces the classes well, and has made me feel confident to put myself out there! Language learning doesn’t come easy for me, but Zach structures the class in a way that is engaging, fun, and goes at a pace that works best for me
- Muchas gracias, Emily! You're a great student, and can't wait to see you become a fantastic Spanish speaker :)Zach's response :
Perfect! Material very understandable. The instructor is knowledgeable and easy to follow.
Perfect! Great lessons! Very organized and makes learning Spanish fun.
Perfect! The way Professor Zac is able to break things down that makes it easier to comprehend.
Perfect! Zach has been teaching me Spanish for several weeks now, and I can’t believe it hasn’t been longer because I already feel that I have learned so much! Zach is so kind, so smart, and so well-organized it’s unbelievable. I don’t know how he does it all and still has the great flexibility to accommodate my work and school schedule. I am very impressed by his time-management.
I feel that he really has what it takes to be a great teacher— I am a real piece of work, but he is forever patient with me, encouraging, and enthusiastic. He closely analyzes my progress and tailors our lessons to challenge me at my current level. He pays especially close attention to my pronunciation, which I really appreciate because it is extremely important!
I have never taken a Spanish class before, so I didn’t have any textbooks or any of my own resources, but Zach bestowed upon me a great wealth of not only documents he’s created, but websites, podcasts, and other resources to facilitate my language journey. It is very obvious that language is his passion, and I feel he is just as excited as I am when I make progress! I really feel like I lucked out big time when I found him to teach me.View more reviews

When I started taking Spanish classes with Zach eight months ago, I couldn’t even introduce myself to someone. Now, eight months in, I can hold basic conversations with people, AND understand what they’re saying back to me. I look forward to my two classes a week with Zach. His workbooks guide you step by step and help you progress seamlessly through his program. In addition to his workbooks, he can shift to help you in an area you’re most interested in. We spend half the time working on Medical Spanish and half the time working on materials provided. As a nurse whose patient population speaks primarily Spanish, being able to converse with these patients makes a huge difference in the care provided to them. Whether you’re a beginner or learning to expand on what you already know, Zach can meet you where you’re at.
Zach at Spanish with a Gringo has been great! He’s very flexible with my schedule and always makes the lessons fun and practical. I’m still learning and really appreciate that the content focuses on phrases native speakers actually use rather than generic textbook material
I tried learning Spanish on my own using various apps, Duolingo, Babble, etc. I've learned more with my lessons at Spanish With A Gringo on a few months than I did with two years using aps. My confidence has grown tremendously. Zach's style of teaching makes the process very fun, I really look forward to my lessons. His platform is easy to schedule the lessons and as a busy professional his availability is extremely helpful. I've found learning a new language to be a long journey, if you have to take a long trip, go with someone who can get you there fast and is fun to be on the trip with.
Zach is extremely patient and always provides visuals and explanations. I chose him to learn Spanish for business/ personal use, I enjoy going to his class every week! I've learned more in the past 5 months than I did in two years of HS courses. He has quizlet's, practice worksheets, and many other resources he provides for you, 10/10 would recommend him to a friend.
The lessons were very professional and engaging! I loved how outgoing and fun Zach has made learning Spanish! He also is comfortable with the content and frequently shows expertise in all areas of understanding and application of the Spanish language.
I’m delighted to have found Spanish With A Gringo. I enjoy the one-on-one approach that is tailored to my needs. Zach is an excellent instructor. He challenges me while also encouraging me and building my confidence. He provides easy to understand explanations and a variety of resources to aid in learning. If you are looking for a Spanish tutor, you should really give Zach a try.
Zach is very nice and helpful. He is articulate and intelligent. I highly recommend him.
Zach is truly an amazing tutor, I came in with some background knowledge of spanish but in the couple months we've been working together he really made sure to help me with my pronunciations and expanding my vocabulary while helping me to be more confident in my speaking and understanding. He truly has been one of the best spanish teachers I've ever had and is very flexible with lesson times (since I work and am in school) and fun to work with. I couldn't recommend him more.
Zach and I have been working together for almost six months now and with every lesson I feel more confident in my Spanish. Even though you're not in a "class" per se, he still challenges you to write paragraphs or do presentations for homework. I also like that he brings culture into the conversation. He makes it clear that you can't learn a language without also learning its culture. I highly recommend Zach to anyone looking to learn Spanish, no matter what level they're at!
I recommend him for any personality type or age. He has a fun approach to teaching that makes learning new things more intriguing. For example, he uses outside sources like music, fun phone apps and websites to help you learn instead of feeling like its just "book work". He's also patient and works with you at your speed so you never feel as though you're falling behind. Overall great learning experience.
He is full of energy during every lesson. I look forward to working with him because he is very patient with you while you work on improving your skills. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to improve their Spanish. He also makes himself available in between lessons so if you have questions, he is very quick with responding. If you work with him and apply yourself to studying in between lessons, you will see an improvement. I used to have two tutors but I quickly realized he is the one for me. We laugh during every lesson so that's an added bonus. They say dancing is the most fun way to exercise because you are having so much fun while burning calories; Zach is the equivalent with mental exercise. He challenges your brain in a fun way so you enjoy the process of improving your Spanish skills.
