About Marina
I was born in Manchester to an English mother and a Venetian father. I loved literature so much I studied it at four different universities; Durham, Warwick, Venice and Oxford. I have two Masters degrees in Renaissance Drama, with a specialism in Shakespeare. After jobs in the film and music industries I became a writer. I have published 20 fiction books which have been translated into 31 languages. My YA thrillers STAGS and YOUNG GOTHIC have been optioned for film and TV. My books for children and young adults took me into schools and I began to teach workshops in English literature, Text Analysis and Creative Writing. During the pandemic I successfully tutored my own children for their exams to A and A* grades and loved the experience, so I began to make myself available as a tutor. As a freelance writer my hours are extremely flexible, so I am available during school hours, evenings and weekends. I can travel to anywhere in the London area or teach online.

I teach online or in person in one hour sessions from a London base. I have impeccable academic credentials in the study of English Literature (specialising in Shakespeare) but have a warm and approachable style in the room. I have two children so I am able to relate to the likes and dislikes of younger students. I often use pop culture or gaming to draw reluctant learners into English Literature - you'd be amazed how a Taylor Swift lyric or a Minecraft reference can pull a student into Shakespeare! I have written published novels for children (The BUTTERFLY CLUB series), young adults (the STAGS series) and adults, so can teach at all levels. I have run Creative Writing workshops at prestige Literary Festivals all around the world including: Edinburgh, Hay, Hong Kong, Woodstock, YALC, Bologna, Sharjah, Oslo, Zagreb and The Isle of Wight. Also at numerous prestige UK schools including: Stockport Grammar School, Loreto College and Beaumont School (St Albans), St Marylebone School for Girls, Thomas Tallis School and Dulwich College (London), Woldingham School (Caterham), Ardingly College (Hayward’s Heath) Wyvern St Edmunds School and Godolphin School (Salisbury) Withington Girls’ School (Manchester) Stonyhurst College (Lancashire) University teaching includes the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Greenwich (upcoming)
