About Efg

I hold the view that education is the cornerstone of human development, ipso facto, a means must be fashioned out, to deliver same to mankind because of inherent differences in culture, social and economic background of the recipients, that is, the students.

My focus in teaching, spanning decades, revolves around blending theory with practice, it is result oriented, comprises strict adherence to students’ participation in class and the instilling of high moral and ethical standards in my students, given the perception accorded lawyers across the globe.

It is not debatable, that the teaching of legal principles is another kettle of fish in relation to practice and procedural issues in real life, such as in private, corporate or court settings; my knowledge as a practicing lawyer and a teacher of law, is the rationale why I concentrate on teaching of the application of legal principles, backed with judicial authorities, so as to bring to the fore, the appreciation of the fundamental differences. Stated in other words, the interface between legal theory and practice and the harnessing of the diversities thereof, is indispensable for learning lawyers; this, I strive as much as possible to do, in order produce articulate and savvy lawyers.

The result oriented approach to my teaching of law, is rooted in the conviction that, irrespective of the methods or processes adopted in imparting legal knowledge to the students, the ultimate goal is the turning out a crop of lawyers who know their onions, implicit in this approach, is the fashioning out appropriate strategies, to cater for the diversities arising from different backgrounds, whereof the students hail.

Analytical and creative thinking is indispensable to a successful legal career, thus, my teaching of law, is directed at aiding the recipients to critically analyze, and inspire their creativity, with respect to legal themes delivered to them, this is with the strategic view of making the students to be independent thinkers, and critical legal analysts.

A conducive environment for learning in a classroom setting is facilitated by my serio-comical nature; I hold the view that students assimilate more under convivial situations, this I do naturally, by making each class a fun filled and an entertaining one, while not losing focus on the serious business of legal theories and principles deliveries.

Insisting and maintaining high moral and ethical standards is a non-negotiable precept for me, in the discharge of my duties as a law teacher; professional and ethical issues having occupied the front burner of legal discourse, lately. My teaching of aspiring lawyers, is thus centered at raising the standard all through the program, by insisting that students should for example, dress the way they want to be addressed, the way of relation with others, should be civil and courteous, and that manners that not lawyerly, heavily frowned at.

My position is that the law is an organic instrument of social engineering, which must bring forth a positive change in the society; the students are thus being trained in that behalf, not only to know the law, but usefully use same as a tool for positive and enduring change; in that respect, I owe my students one important debt, and that is conviction, which is the ability to persuasively convince them, about the reality of law, impart law in them, so as to change their hitherto held views and positions, with the instrumentality of law; when that is done, I would have accomplished my mission.

Strategies deployed in my actualization of effective law teaching, includes but not limited to regular assignments and tests, announced or snap, so as to keep the students on their toes; discussions and debates, to see how well my deliveries in terms of lectures has been imbibed; courts, tribunal visits and video clips, to enable the students see practically and appreciate law in action; moot trials, to inculcate the intricacies of legal practice; riddles and jokes and retreats outside school environment, to foster conducive learning and relaxed minds; awards and token rewards, basically to engender appreciation and encouragement of the students, for their efforts.

Finally, I am born a teacher whose mission is to impart knowledge, and which knowledge, is to contribute to human capital development; that is the best thing I know how to do, it is my passion, and that is my source of internal joy.
