About Richard
Experienced Maths Teacher & Examiner | 15 Years' Experience | National 5, Higher, GCSE & A Level
Hi. I'm Richard, an experienced Maths teacher with 15 years' experience teaching across both the English and Scottish education systems.
I am passionate about helping young people succeed in Mathematics and believe that every student can achieve success with the right support. My aim is not only to improve grades, but also to build confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Over my career, I have taught a wide range of qualifications, including National 5, Higher, GCSE and A Level Mathematics. I have also held leadership roles as Assistant Head of Department and Head of Department, giving me extensive experience supporting pupils of all abilities.
As both a teacher and examiner, I understand what examiners are looking for and can help students develop strong mathematical understanding alongside the exam skills needed to maximise their marks.

My tutoring begins by identifying a pupil's strengths, areas for development and personal goals. Together, we create a clear plan to improve understanding, build confidence and achieve success.
I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their understanding. I firmly believe that success in Maths is not about natural ability, but about effective explanations, practice, perseverance and the right support.
I tutor National 5 Mathematics, National 5 Applications of Mathematics, Higher Mathematics, GCSE Mathematics, and A Level Mathematics (Pure, Statistics and Mechanics).
Whether a student is looking to strengthen their understanding, improve exam performance, prepare for assessments, or achieve top grades, lessons are tailored to help them reach their goals.
