I teach English, Religious Studies and Philosophy and Ethics up to A Level and have over a year of tutoring experience helping some students to secure 9s in their GCSEs.

About Catherine
My experience of working with students has seen me assist primary school aged children all the way up to A Level students. I enjoy the variety of different ages and the range of tasks each student is grappling with. I have taught creative writing workshops for an NGO as well as having done more traditional tutoring for year six SATs, GCSEs and A Levels. I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language as I have worked with French children abroad and have a TEFL qualification. I am also DBS checked.
In regard to class sizes and locations I have taught classes of up to ten children at a time, this particular group was preparing for GCSEs. I also have taught plenty of one on one classes and much like the rest of the world I have become accustomed to using zoom as an online classroom.

As I have tutored for some time now I have got the chance to work with students who were as young as four years old all the way up to students preparing for A Levels. Working particularly with students who are between the ages of twelve to sixteen allowed me to assist with the entire process of gearing up for GCSEs to actually sitting the examinations. These included students who were still learning English and were integrating into the UK education system as well as those aiming for sixth form scholarships. Additionally I also worked with students preparing for A Level exams helping them to adjust to the jump between year 11 and year 12.
The lessons will tackle areas students find particularly challenging by clarifying concepts, discussing ideas to unpack them and learning essay and paragraph structures to ensure all assessment objectives are met. Students will also practice exam questions to develop their technique which I will assess and then collectively we will go over to hone their skill set. One of my main objectives is to instill confidence in students which I have found to be one of the most common stumbling blocks in exam preparation. Learning how revision works best for each individual is vital and something I would be keen to help students discover so they can eventually learn more independently.
