I met Joe in China while training under Yu Shifu, a highly respected kung fu master with direct lineage in internal arts including Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Bagua. The standard of training was demanding and traditional, and Joe spent extended time immersed in that environment, which shows clearly in both his discipline and depth of understanding.

Very quickly, Joe was helping other students. The forms we were learning are technical and easy to misunderstand, but he has a way of breaking movements down so they actually make sense. He doesn’t just show you what to do, he explains the structure, timing, and intent behind it.

Joe continued to teach me in London, where he showed nuances I hadn’t picked up before and refined things I thought I already understood.

His teaching style is patient and precise. These forms require repetition and memorisation, and he never made me feel rushed or like I was taking up too much time. That consistency and attention to detail made a real difference to my progress.

Joe, is an excellent Kung-fu instructor, with a very positive and supportive attitude. He knows all about the Chinese culture, names of all the postures, and provided an excellent lesson from which I just wanted to learn more and more.

I found Joe through his website Kung Fu Dreams and reached out to him directly for classes. I'd been looking for someone teaching internal styles for a while Xingyi Quan and Tai Chi aren't exactly easy to find a proper coach for, so when I came across his site, I got in touch pretty quickly.
Three days in and I'm already glad I did. He pays attention. If something is slightly off in how you're holding your stance or moving your arm, he'll catch it and explain why it matters, not just tell you to fix it. That actually helps it stick.
He won't move on until you've got it either. You repeat the movement until it's right, and at first I thought that might feel frustrating but it doesn't. It feels like progress.

Sessions are 60 minutes, slow pace throughout, and you walk away feeling like you actually learned something rather than just went through the motions.
For what you're getting proper instruction in arts that are genuinely rare to find the prices are more than reasonable too. That was a nice surprise.

If you're a beginner wanting to learn internal kung fu the right way, I'd recommend Joe without hesitation.

Really good Meihua Quan teacher, if you don’t know how to start your kung fu journey, do it with Joe and ask for Meihua Quan, before I met Joe I had a boat, right now I have yacht.
